Codd and Nunez Represent Belize in Cuba’s NORCECA Stop

May 14, 2019 – Bryton Codd and Gaby Nunez represented Belize at the NORCECA Continental Beach Volleyball Tour Stop in Varadero, Cuba from May 10 to 12. They were accompanied by the Cuban beach volleyball coach, Profe Juan Carlos Perdomo, who had been training them in Belize for several months prior to the event. 

Cuba has hosted the Norceca Beach Volleyball Tour for nine consecutive years, and was held this year on the beach adjacent to the Barceló Solymar Hotel. This male and female event saw teams from USA, Canada, Cuba, Cayman, Trinidad and Tobego, US Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama and others.

Belize played in a tough pool against Costa Rica, Guatemala and USA. Guatemala defeated Belize 2-0 (21-18, 21-16) in a well-fought match.  USA was also victorious over Belize 2-0 (21-12, 21-10), as was Costa Rica 2-0 (21-16, 21-12). The experience gained in this high level tournament was invaluable.
